This week we will work with the layers palette and open several layers at the same time. We will edit different layers and find out how the changes affect the whole photo and its expression. Students work with the Photoshop Elements Software (or Krita) to find out how different parts of an image can be selected, copied and pasted into other images or layers:

9.1: Students submit an URL to an image which consists of parts of at least 3 other images with a description what they did and what sources they used. This assignment refers to small parts of images. Students may take one picture as the “main background” and then add “small images” from other pictures to it as they fit in.

9.2 Students hand in an URL to an image which should be a combination of two complete photos with a description of what they did and what sources they used. This assignment refers to two complete pictures, for example an ocean and the skyline of Chicago, a photo of the countryside and a photo of a modern car.

The difference is that in the first assignment students have one “main image” to which they add small parts from other images. In the second assignment students combine two images with almost equal proportions of both images. Both assignments are a good “creative exercise”, as they allow us to create “the unexpected”.

Please be aware that in three weeks you may hand in your final portfolio for this course. It may consist of 3 to 5 images you elaborated in this course with a detailed description what your artistic intention was and how you attended to quality criteria of art and digital photography.

As I mentioned: The first posting has to be 350 to 400 words long and discuss your ideas about the subtopic in detail. If requested by the assignment, it should contain links to your artwork.

The Module 9 Assignment that you submitted involves combining different images. Reflect upon this assignment. Your initial posting should at least be 300 words long.
