Writing Homework Help. Good/Bad Faith Dialogue
Objective: Distinguish “good faith” and “bad faith” efforts in response to being triggered or challenged to “check your privilege” from an intersectional standpoint.
PROMPT: Write a dialogue in which one of the characters is being “called out” to “check their privilege” with two different endings, one which demonstrates a “bad faith” effort, and the other which demonstrates a “good faith effort.” In other words, demonstrate critical thinking about discourse ethics.
- Please respect the word minimum and maximum: 800 – 900.
- Use either (or both) of the readings below for a grasp of the concepts to be illustrated in the dialogue.
- Compose the dialogue to demonstrate your understanding of the relational dynamics at the intersection of privilege and oppression, e.g. between a white woman is oppressed as a woman, but privileged by race and a man of color is oppressed by race, but privileged as a man.
- Feedback: Pick a partner for peer review read it aloud and make 3 suggestions for improving it before the due date.
- Include at the end BOTH the feedback you gave your partner AND the feedback that you were given.

- Robin DiAngelo’s White Fragility, chapters especially chapter 2 (which explains the structural nature of racism), chapters 8 & 9 (which describe “bad faith” Othering), and chapter 12 (which provides “good faith” ways to move forward).
