Assignment Criteria for the Paper

• Brief introduction on the concepts selected for the framework
• The concepts in the framework are clearly defined. The concepts included in the metaparadigm of nursing (person, nursing, health, and environment) must be included.
• The relationship between the concepts is demonstrated.
• Develop program outcomes for your institution that incorporate the following:
• Program outcomes should be described as characteristics expected of graduates by the end of the program
• Program outcomes are based on either the AACN Essentials of Baccalaureate Education OR the NLN Competencies for graduates of Associate Degree Programs OR the current The Joint Commission Hospital National Patient Safety Goals.
• Changes to the initial framework concepts and program outcomes are identified, based on peer collaboration.
• A conclusion to the paper is required.
• A minimum of three scholarly references is required.
• Grammar, spelling, punctuation, references, and citations are consistent with formal academic writing and APA format as expressed in the current edition

• Be sure your writing reflects the third-person point of view. (You want to avoid presenting the information using “I,” “my” or “we.”)
• Be sure you have clearly defined each concept and then add additional sentences (with scholarly references) to support your definitions (and make a paragraph).
• Review the Writing Center resources, located under the “Resource” tab in the course, to ensure you are utilizing appropriate scholarly sources to support your assignment.

A quick reminder for everyone…

Be sure that when you define concepts as you begin to develop your paper, you show where those definitions come from (i.e. cite your sources) and that you discuss the relationship between the concept(s) (by using sources to demonstrate how the concepts are related)…for example, how is ‘environment’ related to ‘nursing’. While you might be able to describe relationships based on your own feelings or thoughts about those concepts, at the Master’s level, it is expected you will provide a connection to the scholarly sources. Remember, you will need to use three scholarly sources in your paper.

The metaparadigm concepts must be included, but other concepts should be included as well to demonstrate the focus of your program. So, if your program is focused on culturally congruent care, you might include this as a major concept and then work to describe the relationship between this and the metaparadigm. If you add the concepts of ‘person-centered care,’ you will need to describe how ‘person-centered care’ is related to ‘environment’ or ‘health.

Sometimes it’s good to create a picture and then describe the picture. Below is an example of an image which reflects the 4 concepts. This is not required!

Remember, you are creating this, so make your program everything you would want a program to be (and assure that it follows the mission of the program that you just wrote). Once again, be sure you have scholarly sources to cite your concept definitions.
