M5.4 Regular Versus Irregular Warfare

You are to consider the widely variable way that violent means, or war, are chosen by differing peoples across the world and over time. Some wars are set-piece battles among the militaries of sovereign nation-states, while others are “partisan,” “peoples'” wars fought by irregular non-state factions, whether guerrilla armies or terrorist cells.  APA citations are expected, an abstract is not.

In your analysis answer the following question prompts:

• Describe the difference between regular and irregular warfare (and provide examples from history).
• What is common in war to every people or nation that uses military force?
