1. Focus on either “Dima’s Game” or Maysoon Zayid’s TED Talk “I’ve got 99 problems…”. Identify what stood out to you most from the video, and why or how this stood out to you. Then explain how the video relates to Racialized Bodies, Disabling Worlds (Dossa 2009); identify and explain 2 comparisons or contrasts. Somewhere in the journal response, you should speak to what you thought about Racialized Bodies, Disabling Worlds, and what will stick with you as you move beyond this course. Also somewhere, include at least 1 reference to a previous reading from class.
Like previous journals, this should be 400-500 words in length. Inclusion of a thesis statement is recommended.
No list of citations is necessary, but in-text citations are. You may just use the name of the video, as opposed to the video director in the in-text citation. Authors’ last names should be used for readings.
2. Identify and properly cite (in Chicago Author/Date Style) 3 quotes from Racialized Bodies, Disabling World, that stand out to you. These are quotes that are not present in the Module’s PPT or Welcome Letter. Each quote should be 1-2 sentences and from different chapters. (You should have 1 quote each from 3 different chapters.)
List each quote, followed by an explanation of why the particular quote stand out to you – BOTH in relation to the reading/article/week (topics/arguments) and for yourself (ie: your interests, experiences, knowledge of a practice). Feel free to refer to other/previous readings as comparison or contrasts or context.
After the 3 quotes and reflections, pose one OPEN-ENDED question that you can (at least hypothetically/theoretically) ask your classmates that relates to one, two, or all three of the quotes. Make sure to explicitly note which quote(s) the question builds off of or relates to.
3. Dossa notes, “Space is a social construct closely linked with power” (146). What does this mean? Why is it important (and layered)?
