Write a 1500-2000 word essay comparing and contrasting the various accounts. Your essay should note details of the story that are consistent, as well as significant differences between the accounts. Some of the questions you should consider are: How does this account fit into the overall structure of the respective Gospels? From which source did the story originate? How do the differences between the accounts reflect the theological/christological perspective of the author? How does each account contribute to the perspective of the author? How do you assess the historicity of the accounts? Which account is more historically reliable and why? You will not be able to answer all of these questions definitively and there may be other questions you will want to consider as well. You are to use your critical reading faculties to tell me how YOU read the text, not a synopsis of how other scholars read it.
