Answering Questions about Puberty (20 points)

Before beginning this assignment make sure you have read pages 33 to 55 in the text and have listened to Lecturettes M2 – 1 and M2 – 2.

Dear Anne (Alex):

This assignment will involve two components. First, you will be writing 3 questions you believe a teen in early adolescence might have about puberty and the growth spurt. Put these questions in the form of a letter to an advice columnist of a magazine targeted for teens. Put all three questions in the same letter. Here is an example:

Dear Annie, I am 11 years old and I have already started my period. I am so embarrassed because I am so much bigger and heavier than all of the girls in my fifth-grade class. Right now I feel as if I will keep on growing and growing. When will this stop? What kind of changes can I expect in the coming year? Also, why aren’t the other girls in my class going through the same changes? Signed, All Alone.

Second, based on what you learned from the course readings and lecturettes you will answer each of three questions you wrote from a teen, responding as the advice columnist. Your answers should be done in language appropriate for teens, at the same time of conveying the important information from the research in the area.
