What is your opinion of this genre of Film and Theatre?

Personally, I typically watch fiction, historical, and sometimes documentary movies. I also believe that Urban Drama is one kind of my favorite type of Movie and Theatre, because I like to learn what it is to live in a different life style than our normal lives. My favorite urban drama film would be Four Brothers directed by John Singleton in 2005.

What do you believe are some of the major themes or issues that this genre deals with?

I believe that most of the Urban Drama films deal with poverty, crime, family, drug abuse, gangs, and social/economic immobility. Most of these films regularly will tell a story starting from where and how these characters live in their daily lives and experience all sort of issues leading them into drug abuse, gangs, and crime.

Would you ever go to a play like Our Lady of 121st Street? Why or why not?

In a case where I get a possibility, I want to see a play like Our Lady of 121st Street, because the play portrays several essential forms of Urban Drama characters.

Would you seek out another Urban Drama film in the future. Why or why not?

Yes, I would like to seek out another Urban Film because these films are growing in popularity and shows a fitting example of how people live their daily lives in the Urban lifestyle.

I think that this genre of Theater is certainly important. It tells the story of individuals who come from an urban background. These type of stories need to be told and played out because it gives a voice to the minorities and the normally forgotten in society. People need to know their stories, their struggles, so that they are aware that these people exist and should not be pushed aside.

I think that the major themes this genre deals with is reality, and survival.I think that the directors try to encapsulate these people’s lives that usually involve harsh and trouble filled environments that are hard to get away from. In some cases even when they get away, the trouble follows them. These films illustrate the tough livelihood of characters as they try deal with the violence that surrounds them.

I definitely would go to a play like Our Lady of 121st Street, because I think its interesting to witness this type of theater. From what I saw in the class, I thought that the play was very witty and humorous despite its theme which I thought was great.

I would seek out another Urban Drama film because I think that these types of film are interesting. They tell a different story and it has realistic values that not many films have today. These films are very direct with their message and contain a lot of truths about the world which I appreciate.
