The United States is a nation of many races, ethnicities, and nationalities. Many groups in this country have experienced discrimination. Think about discrimination you have experienced or witnessed and answer the following questions:

• What’s the difference between individual and institutional discrimination? Be sure to give a specific example of each type of discrimination in your response.
• You are asked to come up with a plan to improve racial and ethnic relations in your community. What would your plan include? How would you address both individual and institutional discrimination in your plan? Explain.

Everyone should just be treated equally. I was raised on judging by someone’s character not the color of their skin. An example of discrimination that I have and am currently experiencing is what the media has caused with white guilt. According to the media, all white people are essentially racist. This is just not true. I am a white man and I treat EVERYONE with the same respect that I would want them to treat me with. I will also use the same example as an example of institutional discrimination. The media is an institute and as of lately has pushed a discriminative message that all white people are inherently racist. An example of individual discrimination would be treating every Spanish looking person like an illegal alien, whether treating them good or bad, but assuming they are illegal just because they are of Spanish descent.
