Writing Homework Help
Writing Homework Help. Academic writing paper introduction paragraph
WR123 – Enthymeme and Outline (+ 5 copies for workshop)
Purpose: This assignment will help you to 1) identify a question that you and your audience cares about, 2) clarify your position in relation to other viewpoints, and 3) test your claims, reasons, and assumptions with your audience. It will also help you to organize the line of reasoning you want to include in your first essay – at least initially. In the end, your final essay may not follow the exact pattern of your first outline, and that’s OK. Be open to modifying your essay plans as you receive feedback and develop your ideas in the process of drafting and revising.
Tasks for Successful Completion: Write a paragraph that introduces your Essay 1.1 on the Culture of Science question at issue you identified in Homework #1 (or a revised version of it). Word count at least 350. Your paragraph should:
- introduce (with context and background) the question issue you have identified,
- state the question at issue as a question,
- summarize the different sides of the issue and the stakes involved in answering the question, and
- give your stance (thesis) in enthymeme form (claim+ because +reason).
After your introductory paragraph, write a detailed outline (not merely a sketch of ideas) that demonstrates: (no limits on word count)
- your line of reasoning that supports the enthymeme,
- a major counterargument, and
- evidence from 4 or more sources (at least 2 from the CoS bibliography).
In addition:
- Single-space the paragraph and essay outline. Include a tentative title for the essay
- If you are unsure of what a detailed outline looks like, see the Sample Argument Outline in Canvas files or go here:
