Completing the CliftonStrengths assessment was a valuable exercise for me and opened my eyes to qualities about myself I did not previously consider, and has allowed me the opportunity to be introspective. I appreciated the guidance for not spending too much time on each question and to go with my gut feeling, as I know that I can be prone to overthinking, and being cognizant of the soft time limit on each question, I believe, allowed me to get more accurate results. One line of questioning that I think stood out to me the most were the questions regarding thinking about the past vs thinking about the future. While I do not consider myself ignorant about the future, I found myself answering more strongly regarding thinking about the past and its implications on the future and wondered if this would have an undesirable effect on my results. I I did not think that my interest in the past would weigh so heavily upon who I am a potential leader but sure enough, my first quality was “Context”. Putting this first result aside, my remaining qualities- Harmony, Analytical, Communication, and Arranger, I thought, were all fairly accurate.

My role as a software implementation engineer and technical consultant often requires me to lead diverse teams at internationally distributed client sites in a joint effort to deploy our software solution. From an organizational standpoint, there are often perceived impasses with priorities and motivations of different groups within each project that must be managed and organized in such a way that does not impede progress within either group. From a technical standpoint, there are a myriad of situations that would require the ability to accurately diagnose and resolve complex technical issues. I found that my results of Harmony and Analytical were extremely relevant for these aspects of my job. Finally, I was pleased to see Communication as one of my results as I firmly believe that clear and effective communication with the teams I lead is an essential component to the success or failure of our efforts.
