There are a variety of analogies which are similar to the negative or positive feedback mechanisms in the body. Nearly all homeostatic mechanisms are negative feedback mechanisms. The mechanisms change the variable to the original state. The control of glucose is an excellent example of negative feedback. When the blood sugar rises, the receptors sense the change in the body. The control secretes insulin to the blood which lowers the blood sugar levels. After the sugar level reaches homeostasis, the release of insulin is stopped by the pancreas (Jones et al., 2010).

Positive feedback is the exact opposite of negative feedback in which the output process enhances the original stimulus. For instance, during labor, oxytocin is released, and with this, it speeds up contractions. When the birth ends the release of oxytocin consequently ends, and the positive feedback ends (Holroyd, 2008). Blood clotting is another analogy which explains positive feedback. When a vessel gets damaged, the platelets cling on the injured area and then releases the chemicals which attract more platelets. This process continues until the platelets form a clot. In essence, positive feedback enhances original stimulus while the negative feedback inhibits it (Jones et al., 2010).

The process of homeostasis solely depends on the possible feedback loops. In the same manner, anything which disrupts with the mechanism of feedback can possibly and mostly disrupt the process of homeostasis. This may lead to illness in situations of the human body. For instance, Diabetes is usually caused by a broken feedback loop which in this case involves insulin. The broken feedback loop, therefore, will make it impossible for the body regulate the body’s blood pressure to a normal level. When a person is healthy the level of blood sugar is regulated by glucagon and insulin (Jalan & Author, 2019).

Insulin works in a design in which it has the ability to decrease glucose concentration in the blood. The levels of blood glucose rise when one eats food and this triggers the release of insulin. It, therefore, works as a signal that triggers the body cells. On the flipside, glucagon does the opposite of what glucose does (Jalan & Author, 2019).
