Hello Class…

I’m Tammy Everett- West and I’m excited about courses getting back started. Just to tell a little about myself, I’m a full time parent, grandmother, student, and employee. I can actually say that my plate is full and I take on a heavy work load daily. I’m interested in learning about statistics and see what this semester has to offer me. I wish everyone the best in the course and good luck as we start this journey together.

A time when I tried, failed, and tried again was when I was in my accounting course I tried to accomplish the material but was not successful the first week. I then realized that I can do this and I could not let the course get the best of me. I ended up passing the course and I had to put in the back of my mind that I can do anything that I put my mind to.

Some examples of how statistics are used in the real world is by:

Weather Forecast- is one way that statistics is used in the real world. The computer models if you did not know were built using statistics. This compares prior weather conditions to the current weather in order to predict the future weather.

Insurance- is another way that statistics is used in the real world. Insurance companies base the driver and homeowner policies off of statistics in the designated area of the customers.

Medical Studies- is the third example of how statistics can be used in the real world. There is a valid rate of effectiveness of any drug statistically before it can even be prescribed.

Hello Everyone,

My name is Heather Zacour and I am 30 years old. I live in South Carolina and I am currenty employeed with CVS Pharmacy as an Operational Manager. I have two children, 4 and 8months, they are my world. I do this all for them. My hopes is to one day after I earn my degree to manage my own CVS Pharmacy and keep going up from there. I would say my try, fail, and try again experience would have to be when I took biology and completely failed it. Biology has NEVER been my strong point and it took all I had just to even sign up for the class again after I failed it the first time. Well, needless to say I took the class again and this time not only did I pass the class but I ended up with a 80 which was much better than anything I expected. I was so proud of myself. One way statistics are used in everyday life is with the weather forecasts because their computers models use statistics all day. Statistics are also used in sports to compare historic players to players these days. One last way statistics are used is when owners decided when and where to build their business. You would not want to build a house or restaurant or anything in the wrong place and it not last. Good luck to everyone this quarter.
