Background: Attorney Chong has asked you to draft a client information letter to client Mary Hastings that explains the law applicable to her case, and whether she will likely be successful in a lawsuit to recover compensation for injuries in her slip and fall case.

Facts: Please refer to HASTINGS CASE FACTS: Projects 1,2,3,4 in Content to review the facts and three court opinions relevant to Mary Hastings’ case.

The three cases relevant to the Hastings case:

• Deering Woods Condominium Association, 377 Md. 250
• Joseph, 173 Md. App. 305
• Maans, 161 Md. App. 620

Client Objective: Client, Mary Hastings, wants to pursue a personal injury case because of her slip and fall incident. She wants monetary compensation for her injuries, for lost wages, and for pain and suffering.

Instructions:

Review the Project 4 rubric.

Draft a client letter to Ms. Hastings for Chong’s signature.

Refer to the Client Letter Format section below for format details.

The client letter must:

• Analyze and explain the law that applies to slip and fall cases;
• Explain how that law applies specifically to Hastings’ case;
• Analyze and explain how the law in the three cases (listed in Facts above) applies to the Hastings case;
• Assess and explain whether Hastings can pursue a case against Gilford Pines Condominium Association, based on the facts of the incident and relevant case law; and
• Asses and determine whether Hastings will likely be successful in achieving her Client Objective (stated in Facts above) and explain the basis for your conclusion.
