The politics of religious and ethnic violence in India. India has long experienced religious and ethnic tension, but recently this has resulted in overt violence and calls for repression. Over the past year, inter-communal violence – particularly against Muslims – has risen dramatically. India was once one of the world’s most promising democracies. What are the psychological determinants of this recent rupture and descent into violence as well as anti-Muslim policies?

This assignment focuses on developing a thesis-driven research paper. By this, I mean that you will develop an argument (a thesis) and will present evidence to support that thesis. The goal, essentially, is to shed light on the topic that you have picked.
