Because
I immigrated to the United States, my husband contacted our U.S.
Representative for guidance several years ago and we know their office
quite well. We have also written her and our two U.S. Senators on
several occasions to express our views on everything from net-neutrality
to gun control legislation. Chellie Pingree represents the 1^st
district of Maine and is a Democrat. Her main interests are in small
farm concerns and food waste issues but she has an active interest in
many topics related to Maine citizens. I picked a topic I have never
discussed with her office but is close to my heart, the upcoming
legislation that might affect immigration of family members of new U.S.
citizens.

Dear Representative Chellie Pingree,

It
is a pleasure to write to you again on a topic that that is close to my
heart. As you know my mother has joined me here in the U.S. and is now
working hard to obtain her U.S. citizenship. You may also know that
she has applied to have her daughter who is not yet 21 join
us. Everyday we hear news stories about the possibility of this visa
program may be ended because of false and confusing information. We are
told that MS13 gang members are flooding America because of this
program and gang members are killing innocent children. Aside from the
fact that MS13 was started in America not imported, the vast majority of
family migrations are of parents of immigrants or young children.
Perhaps most disturbing is that this program is being used for
potentially selective exclusion of certain immigrant populations. It
was recently reported that the Presidents wife, Ivanka Trump, succeeded
in having her parents move to the U.S. and obtain green cards under the
very same program that the President now wants to cut. Please join me
in opposing any legislation that would restrict family reunification of
new U.S. citizens.
