Health Medical Homework Help. USC WK 4 Epileptic Individuals Seizures and Convulsions Discussion

Please write a discussion and respond to this 2 peers’ Discussion Prompts

Discussion:

  • Restate the research question you have chosen.
  • Discuss the importance of questionnaire design. Which type of questionnaire will work best for your final project? Why?
  • Give examples of three questions from your questionnaire (Week 4 Assignment) for the final project.
    • Do not use simple demographic questions as your examples (“What is your date of birth”? or “Are you male or female?”). Instead, choose questions that will help you elicit information to answer your study question (“How often do you get mammograms?”).
  • Respond to at least two of your classmates’ or instructor’s posts. Give your classmates input on the example questions they’ve posted. Will these question help to answer the research question? If not, give examples of other questions they might use.
  • ALL citations and references needs to be APA 7th edition format. THANK YOU

My signature assignment is a Research Study Question about Epilepsy.

Epileptic individuals are in many cases linked to having seizures and convulsions that affect their well-being. What are the social effects that the situation brings to an individual living with epilepsy?

Question: Is there a correlation between intake of sweetened beverages weekly and increased BMI in night shift nurses.

The importance of a questionnaire is to elicit information, from your participants, without guiding them towards a biased opinion. Most questionnaires will have some level of demographic questions. Questions such as age, gender, ethnicity, etc. These will help to determine commonalities in specific groups and classes once the data is analyzed. There are also the options to do open or closed-ended questions. Closed-ended questions would be ones that elicit a yes or no response such as, “Do you have a pet cat?”. On the other hand, there are open ended questions that attempt to elicit more free formed answers from their participants such as, “If you could have a pet, what animal would it be and why?”. For my questionnaire, I will begin with basic demographic questions to track the basic info on my participants. I will them utilize closed-ended questions to get my data set to compare BMI with intake of naturally sweetened beverages. Since my research question is quantitative, it would be best to remain with closed-ended questions (Jacobsen, 2017). Should my research topic change to understand why night shift nurses drink naturally sweetened beverages, then I would be doing more qualitative research and would utilize open-ended questions. Since most of my data will come from numbers, the survey will focus on using numeric responses from the participants (Jacobsen, 2017). The following are a few examples of some of the questions that I plan to ask in my survey:

  • How many naturally sweetened beverages do you drink per week?
  • How many artificially sweetened beverages do you drink per week?
  • Current height.
  • Current weight.

Because, most individuals have no idea what their BMI is, I will ask their current measurements and calculate their BMI on my own as part of my research. This will help minimize participants fudging results. Ideally, if I had the funding, I would measure their height and weight at the beginning and end of the study to see over time how the results change. In the sake of time, this will be a more limited study that results could be utilized in the future to expand on this topic. Although not included in my samples, I will also be using yes/no questions and categorical multiple-choice nominal questions for my demographic information (Jacobsen, 2017).

A questionnaire is important because it allows researchers to gather then necessary information they need for their study. Some examples are questions about gender, sex, medical conditions, and pregnancy (Jacobsen, 2017). These questions are important to find the appropriate inclusions and exclusions needed for research projects. The type of questionnaire that will work best for my final project will be a yes or no questionnaire. I will have specific questions that need to be answered to be eligible for the study.

These questions will be:

What is your gender? M or F or Other

What is your age range? 18- 30, 31-50, 51-70, 71 +

Do you have any medical conditions, including autoimmune diseases? Y or N

Please list any medical conditions

Do you have a family history of autoimmune disease? Y or N

Have you ever been diagnosed with periodontal disease Y or N?

Have you ever had a deep cleaning or been told you need a deep cleaning? Y or N

Have you ever lost any teeth because they fell out or were very loose and needed to be taken out? Yor N

Do your gums bleed often when you brush and floss? Y or N

Do you have a family history of tooth loss, denture wear, or partial wear? Y or N

When was your last medical exam? Within the last year, 1 year ago, 2-3 years ago, 4-5 years ago, over 5 years ago

When was your last dental exam? Within the last year, 1 year ago, 2-3 years ago, 4-5 years ago, over 5 years ago
