The purpose of this activity is for you to identify a health-related bill or law about which you feel strongly and that is up before your state legislature or representative to the United States Congress or Senate, then to contact your state or federal representative to provide a well-supported recommendation for that representative to vote for or against the bill or law.

1. Identify a state or federal bill or law about which you feel strongly that is currently up for consideration.
2. Research the bill or law, including the background.
3. Write a letter to a state or federal representative that:
   1. Identifies you as the writer and the reason your perspective is relevant;
   2. Explains the reason/the purpose for our letter;
   3. Supports your stance/perspective with current (i.e., no more than 5 years old) sources and/or data;
   4. Adds personal perspective on the issue being addressed by the bill or law;
   5. Makes the ask; tell the representative what you want him or her to do/how you would like him or her to vote on the bill or law;
   6. Thanks the representative for his or her time (and their support).
4. Send the letter via email or United States Postal Service AND submit the sent letter in Canvas.
