  • What did you like about the Health and Wellness program?

The knowledgeable instructors and the fun engaging ways they each individually taught their classes. I liked the layout of the resources and E Books. Made it much easier to study Health and Wellness.

  • What do you feel are the strengths of the program?

The ease of use of the provided resources. Especially the writing center and library to find peer reviewed articles. Learning how to properly cite my sources in APA format. Utilizing the course material and E Books to learn about and reference Health and Wellness studies.

  • Explain any recommendations you have for improvement of the program.

Sometimes the classes dates bounced around due to class start times and capacity. Other times there was a couple weeks gas in between classes until the next course was available. Would be nice to be in a program that can start and finish in chronological order without any gaps so I am not waiting for my next class to start or have to push my degree progress and graduation back farther.

  • Do you feel equipped to apply for job openings in your desired career field? Support your response with a rationale. If not, what do you anticipate needs to be done to get yourself prepared?

Yes I do. Especially from this last class that helped me work on my resume, cover letter and interview preparation. I also learned how to better look for and apply for job postings in the Health and Wellness work force. I feel much more confident in obtaining a career path in my field of study.

  • Do you feel confident in your abilities to work with individuals and groups by assessing their personal wellness challenges, needs, and goals? Support your response with a rationale.

I absolutely do. There are so many population groups I will be working with. This program helped me customize my abilities to work with each group as needed. I also can narrow down the niche group I ideally want to work with that interests me the most and plays to my strengths and empathy.

  • Regarding cultural appreciation and competency, how did this program increase your skills in this area? How will this skill impact your future career and personal life?

It made me woke to all of they other cultures and customs that are in the world and in America. Being culturally sensitive and aware of other people’s different traditions and ideologies will help me as a health care provider. It especially strengthens my bedside manner and how to better earn the trust of clients from different cultures then my own.

  • Please share any other thoughts pertaining to your time at the University of Arizona Global Campus or your future.

Wonderful program and look forward to continue my Master’s degree at University of Arizona Global Campus!

What did you like about the Health and Wellness program?

I enjoyed interacting with other like-minded students in the weekly discussions. It helped me to feel connected and not like I was all alone, going after my dream. I also learned about different types of behavior change methods and about professional organizations, and how to get specific certifications.

What do you feel are the strengths of the program?

The structure of the program was easy to follow. The instructions and the rubric were clear and helped one to get a good grade if followed. The instructors were always easy to contact, very encouraging, and always willing to answer questions. The tutorial aids like the paper review, Grammarly, and Turnitin were a tremendous help. Another thing that I loved was the way the program began and how it is ending. The first class taught us our style of learning and how to use that to succeed in our future courses. And this ending capstone class is taking everything we’ve learned and summing up as well as getting us prepared to go after that dream job while our instructor encourages and cheers us on. I am very impressed with this college.

Explain any recommendations you have for improvement of the program.

I would have liked to have more Health and Wellness courses and fewer Philosophy and English courses. It felt like I didn’t get health and wellness-type classes until the very end. Another recommendation is that I had one instructor who did a weekly video lesson which I found quite helpful. I would recommend that all instructors do that, as sometimes you feel self-taught when you’re just reading their teachings. I liked the personal touch of the video.

Do you feel equipped to apply for job openings in your desired career field? Support your response with a rationale. If not, what do you anticipate needs to be done to get yourself prepared?

Before this week’s lesson, I felt ill-prepared. I have not interviewed or applied for a job in 12 years and was worried about how a resume should look today and about being overlooked because I am older. This last lesson taught me how to tailor a cover letter and write a resume, and the mock interview lesson taught me how to answer those tough questions that are given. I learned how to sell myself in a way specific to the job I want and how to use my age and skills as a positive. I am very thankful for this class. I am hanging on to the links and will practice every interview question suggested to be ready and confident.

Do you feel confident in your abilities to work with individuals and groups by assessing their personal wellness challenges, needs, and goals? Support your response with a rationale.

This program helped me understand how to assess clients and find their fitness level, readiness to change, and how to tailor a program that suits them. The different theories of behavior change gave me ideas and ways to help them meet goals and succeed. I learned that exercise doesn’t have to be one size fits all and doesn’t have to be in a gym. I also loved that we learned about motivational interviewing. This will help me to be kind, empathetic and find the right way to help.

Regarding cultural appreciation and competency, how did this program increase your skills in this area? How will this skill impact your future career and personal life?

I would have liked to have had more teaching in this area. A whole cultural competency course might be something for the college to consider in the future. I am pretty familiar with my own culture but don’t always know how to work with other cultures. I will be working with people from all parts of the world if I stay with my current company and would have liked more training.

Please share any other thoughts pertaining to your time at the University of Arizona Global Campus or your future.

I have to say that these past two years have been tough but rewarding. I had not been in college in years and always felt “less than” because I never finished my degree. An opportunity came up with a full-tuition grant with my employer, so I decided to run with it. I am so glad I did, as I can finally say that I have a Bachelor’s degree! I began it in 1986 at ASU and will complete it in 2021 at rival UofA. Haha! I tell people I was on the 35-year plan! But I must say, the program was nicely structured, easy to follow, and although online, I never felt alone. The instructors have been tremendously encouraging, and I am recommending the college to everyone. This degree, along with my nursing license is going to help me achieve my dream of becoming at Health and Wellness coach. I am forever grateful.
