FIRST RESPONSE  …………………………………..

1. Minimizing bias and decreasing threats to internal validity is important to experimental designs. How  will a researcher use the three criteria, manipulation, randomization,  and control to minimize bias and decrease threats to internal validity?

Internal  validity intends to question whether an independent variable makes a  difference to the dependent variable (LoBiondo & Haber, 2018, p.  156). This is done by researchers ruling out other factors in their  study (LoBiondo & Haber, 2018, p. 156).

Manipulation is done  by changing the method of treatment in the independent variable  (LoBiondo & Haber, 2018, p. 168). Researchers measure this  manipulation to compare results of the experimental treatment on the  dependent variable and to those who may or may not receive treatment  (LoBiondo & Haber, 2018, p. 168).

Randomization is used in  order to put potential subjects in groups in a random way that allows  them all to have an equal chance to be assigned a treatment group  (LoBiondo & Haber, 2018, p. 155). This process can give the benefit  of the doubt that variable that could affect change in dependent  variables to be equally distributes, which reduces systematic bias  (LoBiondo & Haber, 2018, p. 167).

Control in an experiment  design is used for the method of keeping the study pure and with real  time results. According to LoBiondo and Haber (2018), control is  manipulated by the investigator, where they set and maintain conditions  to limit bias that could influence the dependent variable (LoBiondo  & Haber, 2018, p. 167).

2. Many times, researchers state that randomized clinical trials (RCT) provide the strongest level of evidence for an individual study when using an evidence-based model.  As a researcher, why do you think this statement is true? As  a researcher, I know this is true because randomized clinical trial  provides sufficient data to explain cause-and-effect relationships with  their process of randomization, control and manipulation to minimize  bias or error (LoBiondo & Haber, 2018, p. 167).

3. When conducting an experimental design, how  will you as a researcher, use intervention fidelity to increase the  strength and quality of the evidence provided by the findings of the  study? Intervention fidelity, similar to constancy, assures that all  subjects are going through the same exact procedure and treatment  (LoBiondo & Haber, 2018, p. 154). Time of data collection,  instruments used, and procedures set forth as well as environmental  conditions are replicated in each subject (LoBiondo & Haber, 2018,  p. 154). Using interventional fidelity allows the reader to see their  plan and consistency used throughout (LoBiondo & Haber, 2018, p.  151). As a researcher, I will maintain the research by conducting the  same treatment for each subject in order to increase the strength and  quality of the evidence collected.

What are the key concepts in internal and external validity?

1. Minimizing bias and decreasing threats to internal validity is important to experimental designs. How will a researcher use the three criteria, manipulation, randomization, and control to minimize bias and decrease threats to internal validity?

Ensuring that the researcher’s focus is centralized on the intended outcome is an efficient way of minimizing threats to the internal validity. Controlling more variables, increasing randomization to minimize any bias in the sample, adding control and blinding the entire experiment are the techniques to minimize bias. Randomization facilitates the production of comparable groups that help in the elimination of bias (Hauser, Ellsworth & Gonzalez, 2018). Manipulation is also critical because it eliminates potential alternatives of explanation for the experiment’s results. On the other hand, control as an imperative in minimizing threats is useful because it detects selection and confounding bias through measuring the experiment’s effects whether it was confounded by factors that are unexpected (Ruble, 2017).

2. Many times, researchers state that randomized clinical trials (RCT) provide the strongest level of evidence for an individual study when using an evidence-based model. As a researcher, why do you think this statement is true?

RCTs (Randomized Clinical Trials) provide the highest level of evidence for an individual study because their design is made to inhibit bias and this originates from the minimal risks of systematic errors. For instance, random allocation of subjects to at least two or more groups causes a randomization of the confounding factors that can cause bias in the results.

3. When conducting an experimental design, how will you as a researcher, use intervention fidelity to increase the strength and quality of the evidence provided by the findings of the study?

I will ensure I maintain uniformity and consistency throughout the entire study. The aim of the specified study must be clear and stated from the beginning. On the other hand, all the participants in the group must be informed on the different roles that they will play as well as the expectations (LoBiondo-Wood, Haber & Titler, 2018). Importantly, the experimental interventions must also be clearly defined.

4. Question:

For instance, you are performing a specified research study and you’re unable to bring enough participants on board to be part of the research. Nevertheless, you continue with the study. In such a case, how can the dearth of participants affect the study’s internal validity?
