After reading Marx’s description of the effects of Mechanization on workers and society in general, I’d like you to watch this short video extract and make some comments on it. 

Think about the following as you watch the clip. Then, make a post to the discussion board in which you answer all of the following questions. Whenever possible, your post should refer to a specific moment in the video: indicate the moment or part of the video you’re talking about by providing the time. For example, “starting at 1:20, we see the shift change of the workers, and I noticed…”

1. How are the lives of the workers depicted in this film in general? What similarities do you see in common with Marx’s writings on the larger effects of the division of labor in society?

2. More specifically, what does the labor performed by the workers have in common with Marx’s description of factory work?

3. What do you notice about the education of the elite young men in this society? How does this education relate to the labor of the workers? How is it different? Are there any similarities between the activities of the workers and the education of the elite?

4. How is work “at the top” of this society depicted? How is it different from factory work? How is it similar?
