Scenario

You are a Sales Executive working for the Datalytic software technology company. As part of your personal community service goals, you have volunteered to help your local high school guidance counselor prepare an FAQ sheet regarding the benefits of attending college vs. entering the workforce with no college education. You will need to perform a cost-benefit analysis to obtain the information presented in the FAQ. The FAQ will be presented to parents and students at a career night event hosted by the high school.

Students and parents will want information regarding the cost of college attendance, as well as data based on college majors and career fields. Students will need a clear understanding that their earning potential throughout their career will be significantly greater if they graduate with a 4-year degree.

Instructions

Perform a cost-benefit analysis and create an FAQ Sheet in a Word document. The data you collect and prepare for your cost-benefit analysis should lead to an informative and persuasive FAQ. The FAQ should include credible information which encourages students to attend college. Be sure to include data about different types of career fields so that you reach a broad range of students with different educational interests, and elaborate on the following points:

·        Decipher which components of college attendance will offer an objective comparison when you consider: tuition, room & board, meal plans, and other miscellaneous expenses. Explain the reasons for your approach and explain the items you included in your cost-benefit analysis.

·        Provide an overview of the cost of college attendance at a typical 4-year institution, broken down by in-state tuition vs. out-of-state tuition.

·        Compare lifetime earnings of people with a college degree vs. non-degree workers. Include a graph or chart to illustrate your explanation.

·        Compare the cost of public vs. private colleges in the United States.

·        Inform the audience about the average earnings by college major.

·        Provide additional context about the benefits of college attendance.

·        At the end of the FAQ, add an explanation of how the data was sourced and synthesized for your presentation. Justify the relevance and credibility of your data sources.
