Extra Credit Prompt: Pay-Roll Crisis.

It’s the last monday of August 2020, and your 10-week internship at JP Morgan has reached its final week. You were working in their Manhattan office for their Global Finance and Business Management Analyst Program as a business analyst. It is your hope that your experience as an analyst will lead to a full time-employment at the firm.

Unfortunately, COVID-19 has resurfaced in New York City and the reinfection rate has increased. A shelter-in-place order has come down on the city two days ago and companies are scrambling, yet again, to respond to new social-distancing orders. To make matters worse, your last paycheck surprisingly didn’t appear in your bank account on it’s scheduled date: August 8th. You don’t know why.

You’ve emailed your boss, Tim Rhodes, two weeks ago regarding this issue and he said he “was on it.” However, he hasn’t responded to any of your emails in the last three days, and you can understand why: he manages roughly 30 employees and a crisis is rapidly influencing the markets and the company. But he has helped you set up and answer questions regarding payroll before. You’re worried that reaching out directly to HR may trigger HR to contact Tim, making him look bad. You don’t want that.

As your rent date due date inches closer you know you have to send yet another email to Tim. The email needs to:

• Motivate Tim to either fix the payroll issue himself or get you in contact with someone who can.
• It’s Monday, and you’ll need this completed by Friday if you want to pay rent on time.
• Keep it short and to the point: no more than 150 words
• Be affirmative, authentic, and sincere.
