Business Finance Homework Help. HCCS Personal Integrity Over Economic Wealth Analysis

Human Relations

“Integrity vs. Economics”

Rhonda and Cheri are best friends. They have known each other since the Third grade. They were roommates their freshman year at Houston Community College. Now they are sophomores with separate residences. Rhonda has an entrepreneur’s mentality. She wants to own her own boutique and clothing line one day. Cheri is more traditional. She wants to finish school with a high GPA and get a great paying job in business as a manager and eventually a corporate executive. With the thought of midterm exams coming soon, Cheri told Rhonda she wanted to hangout in Galveston for the Mardi Gras Celebration to have fun before buckling down for exams. They decided to go on Saturday and Rhonda offered to drive.

During the drive to the beach, Rhonda stopped to get gas at Valero. While Rhonda was picking up some cool beverages, Cheri noticed the Lotto jackpot was at eight million dollars and bought a lottery ticket. The girls spent the rest of the day flirting, profiling, frolicking, and collecting colorful beads on the beach. When they returned to Houston, it was after 2 a.m. Rhonda dropped Cheri at her apartment and headed home. During the ride home, Rhonda noticed Cheri’s lottery ticket had fallen out of her pocket and on to the seat. Rhonda had not seen Cheri buy it, but she figured it had to be Cheri’s ticket because Cheri was the only one to ride with her that day. Once home, Rhonda laid the ticket and her purse on the kitchen table and decided to return it to Cheri Monday at school.

The next morning, while sitting at the table, eating breakfast, and reading a local newspaper app, Rhonda’s present roommate Mia noticed that the ticket that Cheri lost was the winning ticket—the only winning ticket. Also, it was a “quick-pick ticket” assigned six random numbers, basically untraceable. She had no knowledge of the ticket’s history but quickly signed it before exiting for church. Mia left a note that said, “We’re Rich Girl!” Mia is a business law major who dreams of being a registered sports agent and/or marketing executive. She has taken care of Rhonda’s share of the rent, bought most of their food, and loaned her gas money as well as pocket money for nearly 5 months. Although Rhonda often drives Mia to and from campus, Mia has never cared for “small talk” and feels no shame in her actions!

The Lotto has a strict two-winner limit per ticket. Presently, Mia’s rights have vested. If Rhonda signs it now, Rhonda and Mia must collect equally on the ticket. Yet if she does that, Rhonda may be aborting her extensive friendship with Cheri. Accordingly, if she gives it to Cheri now, Cheri and Mia will gain total control over all eight million dollars. Again, both winners must receive an equal share of the eight-million-dollar jackpot. Rhonda must face the troublesome decision of “economic wealth” versus “personal integrity.” In the past, Rhonda has openly expressed how much she appreciates her new roommate Mia and loves her best friend Cheri. However, Rhonda has started thinking about how much she trusts Cheri and/or needs her as a friend and also of the clothing-line she has always dreamed of starting.

I. In Class Writing Assessment One

You are now Rhonda! Rhonda has not told the others (Cheri and Mia) about the ticket situation and has not yet signed it. What are your thoughts? How should/will you proceed in this situation? Why are you taking the action(s) you have decided to take? Also, would these three ladies make good business partners in the future? Using complete sentences, write a “ten sentence response” that explains how this situation will unfold and informs me, your audience, that your decision is the right decision. You may choose to compare and/or contrast the students’ character and/or relationships as part of your answers’ development. Assessed will be the appropriate use of complete sentences, correct punctuation, and the thoroughness as well as clarity of your analysis.

  • Apply the complete sentence checklist to each of your sentences to see if they are complete.
