In 2008 a Select Committee of the House of Lords concluded
its investigation of concentration of ownership in the UK media. The chairman,
Lord Fowler, summarized their findings by saying: ‘If you look at the
concentration of ownership that there now is in newspapers, TV, radio, there’s
no question . . . there’s a lot of influence and a lot of power in the hands of
a small number of owners . . .
